By the time that I have replaced the lead in my pencil a few times I usually have a layout that I am happy with. Then, after ordering more lead, I take my sketch to the light table. The light table has an translucent glass top with lights behind it that allows me to trace with ease.

Once on the light table I place a new sheet of paper, with some guides printed on it, over the top of the original sketch. Using a felt-tip marker I then carefully trace the sketch, making changes as I go. I usually move things around quite a bit from what was on the sketch.
